August 18, 1969, after a meeting that CARNALISMO had (CARNALISMO is an organization formed by the Chicanos in ages 12 to 18, to inform Chicanos who live in the projects, what to do in case the are caught in any situation where they might be done in by the MAN, and to improve the situation of housing in the projects, schooling and civil human rights), and the vatos were just shooting the bull as usual. About 12:00 a squad car pulled up on 5th and Gless Streets with their lights off. Two officers came out of the car with their night sticks drawn, and ran toward the group, which was sitting on the so-called playground. It This is a common tactic used by the pig, so the vatos ran.
