Small articulated female figure. (6)
Small copper pin. (4)
Small figures are good information sources for clothing and headdress styles worn in ancient times. This female figurine wears an unusual headdress with ears of corn. She may represent Chicomecoatl, the corn goddess. (1)
Small figurines can illustrate concepts of beauty. The arm bumps could be jewelry or they were created by cutting the skin and rubbing a substance into the wound. Indigenous skin forms a swollen scar when healed. These scars represent a beauty concept and/or a rite of passage. The belly flap indicates childbirth. (1)
Small figurines often describe the people of the past. What they did to their bodies. The types of clothing they wore. The jewelry they decorated themselves with. This female wears a knee-length skirt with a black "X" pattern that forms white diamonds with black diagonal dots. For jewelry, she decorates her body with earrings, a wide necklace, and two armbands on each arm. (6)
Small molcajetes are used to grind minerals, earth for colors or plants for medicine and drugs. The shape of this molcajete suggests the cap of a mushroom. Special mushrooms are used to enter hallucinogenic trances by a shaman to access different realities. (6)
