Casas Grandes ollas express over and over the concept of duality, a very important part of their cosmology. Duality manifests itself on the neck, the red and striped black triangles. The large squares with two opposite repeated images, the black 'P' or 'D' shape reversed, and the abstracted 'W' serpent form and the abstract macaw bird form.

The Casas Grandes culture produced at least half a dozen decorative ceramic styles. This Villa Ahumada Effigy vessel, created in the Rio Carmen area of northeastern Chihuahua, incorporates the typical red and black geometric designs of that style. The olla shaped vessel features a zoomorphic cup attached to the rim for drinking or pouring.
