Hunger Strike Protest
Description
A photograph of community members supporting the inmate hunger strike, holding protest signs. A handwritten caption reads, "1969-Protest". There is a cut-off article attached to the back of the photograph: "During the 1800's, the people of Mexico grew more [aware] of their problems in their barrios. There was dis[cri]mination in the schools, where the Spanish teacher [told] Mexicans that it was bad to be proud of their Indi[an] heritage, and that they better forget their dark s[kin] people and try to be white like the rich French an[d] rich Spanards. Many children started to believe t[his] and denied that they were Mexican, even though all [peop]ple of Mexican decent hold 60% Indian blood. But [then] there where a lot of people who were proud of thei[r] culture and heritage, and thus, denounced the Span[ish] lords. Because of this, the rich Spanish, French and Angl[os] who controlled Mexico with Spanish army from Spain wanted all who protested to be put into prison or [?] by the Spanish order."

Description
A photograph of a supporter of the Roosevelt walkouts is arrested. There is a cut off article attached to the photograph: ...and will lose some of his toes, and [it's] snot certain how far up they will his leg. [It] is very sad because he had his mind set on
[play]ing football; Alfredo was also sergent at arm- [C]ARNALISMO. It is a known fact that this 16 [year] old will soon be arraigned within the next [few] -days, being the last days of November, and [that] his bail will run from $30,000 to $50,000,
[whi]ch once again proves that the establishment can [do w]hat ever it pleases, in handling cases such as [this] case.
[Th]is another of the many incidents that occur [local]ly in East L.A. as well as the Southwest where [Chic]anos are injustly tried and put away to waste
[thei]r lives in the state prisons and juvenile camps.
