  1. This small hourglass-shaped pedestal bowl has a flared base with pierced triangles. A human face has been appliqued to one side and the eyes have been abstractly painted. (6)
  2. This smaller seated figure represents a more abstracted and simplified male. His back indicates he is a hunchback. (6)
  3. This solid Chupicuaro female figure has a hole in the center of her head. She probably was worn as a pendant to insure fertility. (6)
  4. This Teotihuacan cylinder is quite unique as a storytelling vessel, which relates a journey past mountains, waterfalls and streams. The journey is shown by means of footprints. The elite figures, known by their elaborate hats, process past natural wonders under the protection of an astronomical phenomenon. (6)
  5. This transitional ceramic depicts Maya iconography on a foreign vessel. The baluster form with a pedestal foot is a Costa Rican import. The polychrome decorations of a cormorant with jaguar spots, a seated maya, and a feathered serpent with an ancestor emerging from the serpent's mouth are Maya. (6)
  6. This unique serving vessel, in the form of a teapot or ewer, features a funnel opening, a stirrup handle, and a curved spout. The center of the vessel has a depressed top with a protruding button. The artist used a resist slip process to create the white slip design on red slip ground. (18)
  7. This unusual plumbate cacao vessel is divided into three quadrants. Each quadrant contains an elaborate design of semi-abstract faces and zoomorphic (supernatural entities) on the vessel's neckband and wide shoulder band. Between each quadrant, the Maya "kin" crosses hold a ceramic sphere to create a rattling sound. (6)
  8. This very unique artifact was cast from a Mesoamerican toad, Bufo marinus. The toad produces a skin toxin which causes hallucinogenic visions and/or death. Archaeological excavations of middens and ceremonial burials of the Olmec culture in Southern Veracruz have yielded large numbers of toad skeletal remains. (6)
  9. This vessel takes the form of a mollusk. It has been painted with an intricate geometric motif with red-brown pigment. (6)
  10. This warrior stands ready to encounter his foe with his sling armed and ready to fire. The face is human, but has an animal quality. His elaborate headdress appears to be a bird's head. (6)
