  11. The artifact's shape indicates a flared, waisted olla that contains patty-shaped objects, possibly masa or copal. If you hold the object vertically the object becomes a votive offering, but horizontally a waisted ear plug, (6)
  12. The artist is playing with your mind. He has depicted a male sitting on a tripodal platform. The platform moves back and forth between being part of the man and separated from the man. (6)
  13. The artist used buff clay to create this solid standing religious figure. The elite person wears an elaborate zoomorphic saurion headdress, a shoulder cape, and a long shirt. The position of the arms suggests a ceremonial activity such as singing, chanting or dancing. It is possible the figure is a priestess of Quetzalcoatl. (6)
  14. The body language and facial expression of this seated male suggests mourning or a drug induced trance. (6)
  15. The Casas Grandes culture produced at least half a dozen decorative ceramic styles. This Villa Ahumada Effigy vessel, created in the Rio Carmen area of northeastern Chihuahua, incorporates the typical red and black geometric designs of that style. The olla shaped vessel features a zoomorphic cup attached to the rim for drinking or pouring. (6)
  16. The censer's image combines a skull and a left arm with a predominate index figure. The index figure hand incorporates a rattle. The skull and figure can be read as "One Death". The skull has been painted with twenty-two marigold flowers and thirteen arrows, which all point to death. (11)
  17. The circular bowl has been divided into four basic triangles. One quadrant represents the step design, a symbol for mountains and the other quadrant a spiral design, the symbol for water. The design repeats itself. (6)
  18. The circular-shaped vessel suggests a coiled snake with diamond designs. The snake has been anthropomorphized/humanized with a human head. The snake is an important symbol of rebirth, renewal, and resurrection. (6)
  19. The concept is the same; the tripodal platform being part of the man and the tripodal platform separated from the man. The execution of the seated figure is more exact, more refined. The sculpture has more detail. (6)
  20. The design band has been compressed at the top and the bottom. Note the vertical column which separates the two main panels. Within the vertical band, you can see the concept of duality manifested in reversed shapes and different colors. The main panel has a diagonal design with opposite colors and shapes. (6)
